PEOPLE with physical and learning disabilities often find it difficult to gain employment – but a city training scheme is helping to get them into work.

"We provided some guidelines and help to give them the option to set up their own business in the future.

"So many of the Pluss customers already had great business ideas, we taught them about marketing, advertising, how to make a sale, different types of business and finance."

She added: "They have done so much better than I could have hoped for. They've all become brilliant friends, worked amazingly together and really supported each other through it. I really hope this is something we can do again with Pluss; it's been fantastic to see people's confidence blooming."

Bob Cole, from Liskeard, completed the training and now makes automata.

He said: "I was made redundant and found it hard to get work because of my arthritis. I've dabbled with self employment in the past so this course improved on the skills I already had.

"Hopefully if I decide to become self employed again, the course will have opened up new opportunities to me.

"The course was really useful, the tutor was great and all the people I've met are really nice too."
