Nick Lloyd believes the damage done to his black Ford Focus Ghia means it will be written off. Vicky Rafferty and her fiance Shane Slocombe share a black Mazda RX8. Their car was hit with such force it mounted the pavement.

Nick, 37, has been shop manager of J's Skate Shop for eight years. He said he is angry and frustrated nobody stopped after the collision. He said: "I was parked on the right hand side of the road, near the bowling club.

"There were three other cars parked there when I left. I got a call at about noon to say my car had been smashed up.

"The police were already there, I don't know who called them. My car and another car were damaged. I think someone had hit the other car then swerved into mine. The other vehicle must be trashed.

"I had to shut the shop for two hours while I tried to sort everything out. After the flooding I could do without.

"It has been a shocker of a day. You just don't expect this sort of thing to happen in Braunton. It is such a shame."

Vicky, 23 and Shane, 22, own Egoboost hair salon. Vicky said she hopes the person who damaged their car is caught. She said: "We were working in the salon, we were really busy with clients. A man came in and asked if we owned a black Mazda. He told us it had been involved in a hit and run. He said the front tyre had been smashed up.

"We went to have a look, the car can't be driven. It had been smashed into, the tyre had come out and the car had come away from the pavement. The car is in a garage at the moment. We are both so frustrated and angry, someone must have seen something.

"I can't believe someone has done this. We live in Barnstaple and rely on our car to get to work. Family members are going to help us out. Shane's mum lives up the road from the salon and she has been very supportive, so has his sister.

"We hope whoever did this gets caught, someone must have seen something, we hope we can get the car fixed. We had to cancel all our clients for the day and close the salon to take the car to the garage."

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "A piece of material believed to be from a silver or blue Saab was found at the scene. Police continue to make enquiries."

Anyone who saw a vehicle matching this description is asked to call the police on 101 quoting log number 229.
