DETECTIVES investigating a sex attack allegation are keen to hear from a taxi driver who dropped off a couple in West Hoe.

Police say the incident, which took place on October 18 last year, saw the driver drop off a male and a female – both in their 20s – in Pier Street, West Hoe at around 4am

Witnesses suggest the driver waited for payment beside a black hackney cab while the young woman knocked on a door in Pier Street. Police believe the taxi driver, who was not involved in the alleged assault and is sought only as a witness, eventually drove off and left them without being paid his fare.

The taxi driver is described as a 40-50yr old white male, short to average height, average to large build, grey hair and beard or heavy stubble, possibly wearing black trousers and jacket. Police are hoping the driver will remember picking the couple up from the area near Cuba, North Hill and taking them to Pier Street.

The female was white and in her 20s while the suspect was a black male in his 20s.

Anyone with information about the incident should call police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting crime reference number EC/12/721.
