Devon and Cornwall Police is supporting the installation of self-service water dispensers in pubs and clubs across Devon.

Called 'Project H2o', the initiative aims to encourage partygoers to drink more water while consuming alcohol.

Research shows that making water freely available can help reduce problems associated with heavy drinking including anti-social behaviour, violent crime and domestic abuse.

Police Sergeant Richard Crosby said: "Project H2o is already proving effective in raising awareness of the value of keeping oneself hydrated when drinking alcohol".

Funding of £11,500 has been provided by Devon and Cornwall Police, Safer Devon Partnership, NHS and DAAT (Drug and Alcohol Action Team). It has paid for water dispensers to be installed at 47 licensed venues across Devon for one year.
