PowerPoint-led comedy line-up
Dave Gorman:
IF YOU thought the PowerPoint presentation was just for business meetings, comedian Dave Gorman invites you to throw your prejudices aside. The man behind Are You Dave Gorman? and Googlewhack Adventure is at the Plough (Saturday, May 19) – probably the most intimate venue on his tour.
Dave shot to fame in 2001 with Are You Dave Gorman? a project which saw him try to find 52 other people in the world with the same name as him. It won him cult comedy status and led to further offbeat quests. On his Googlewhack Adventure, for instance, he travelled the globe meeting people whose websites were the sole search result when two single words were punched into Google.
For this latest show Dave has formed a double act – with a projector screen. For Dave Gorman's PowerPoint Presentation head to the Plough expecting a projector, a pointer, and plenty of laughter.
Jon Richardson:
ONE of the most in-demand young artists on the UK Comedy Circuit is Jon Richardson who is a frequent face on TV shows like Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Have I Got News For You and Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow. Time Out describes him as, "sublimely brilliant, stunning… a comic right on the verge of greatness… if you haven't seen him yet, get your finger out and sort it." You'll be able to do just that when he heads to the Plough on Saturday, May 26.
John Maloney and Bob Mills:
THERE'S also visits from John Maloney, winner of the Best Live Performer award for two years running at the London Comedy Festival and Bob Mills, a regular on Radio 5's Fighting Talk (also a BAFTA nominated screenwriter for the likes of Michael Barrymore, Robson Green and Julie Walters). These two share the stage on Saturday, June 23.
Alex Horne:
EXPECT an ambitious and unprecedented comedy show from Alex Horne who is at the venue on Friday, May 4. In an average lifetime, apparently, you'll spend two years shopping, two weeks kissing and 18 months looking for lost things. You'll also spend quite a while eating, queuing, crying and Googling yourself. Horne promises to squeeze all those things into his show as he recreates your life in a single hour.
Rabbi Lionel Blue:
THE Rabbi Lionel Blue, known to millions through his warm and gentle humour on BBC Radio 4, will be at the Plough on Wednesday, June 27. Using his own experiences, he'll be serving up stories, incidents and conversations with a dotty, inconsequential flavour to appeal to people from all religions, and from none. "My aim is to give people the courage to get out of bed", he declares.
Mitch Benn And The Distractions:
MITCH Benn brings his musical satire to the Plough on Sunday, May 13, performing alongside his band The Distractions. Expect satirical ditties from this regular writer and performer on The Now Show for BBC Radio 4 and It's Been A Bad Week for BBC Radio 2.
The Boy With Tape On His Face:
THE Plough is also offering a chance to catch The Boy With Tape On His Face, a show which has been making waves throughout the world of comedy (Tuesday, March 13). Kiwi comic Sam Wills' act is based on an inability to speak, thanks to having a strip of duct tape over his mouth. The latter day Charlie Chaplin (or the latest successor to Mr Bean – you decide) uses sound effects, costume, pop music and playful interaction with the audience in pursuit of wordless fun. The show has had huge amounts of media coverage and was a massive hit at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Devon talents:
AS WELL as all the above there are some favourite Devon comedians heading to the venue: Josh Widdecombe with Charlie Baker (Friday, April 13) and Craig Campbell (Friday, June 1).
Box office: 01805 624624.
