Quartet perform Haydn's 'seven last words'
KINGSKERSWELL Parish Church is gearing up to present the Seven Last Words of our Saviour on the Cross.
The event, on March 26 at 7.30pm, comes as part of Holy Week reflections.
A spokesman said: "This is one of Joseph Haydn's most profound and deeply moving works. The seven slow movements correspond to the seven last sentences uttered by Christ upon the Cross.
"The music will be performed by the Divertimento String Quartet, a group of well-known professional musicians, formed in 2004 to perform major works of chamber music repertoire."

The quartet will be led by Mary Eade on violin. Mary was a member of the English Chamber Orchestra and London Festival Orchestra before moving to Devon where she appears regularly as soloist, leader of orchestras, and in chamber ensembles.
To accompany the music, there are words by Canadian poet Mark Strand, who in 1990 was elected Poet Laureate of the United States.
The verses are based on the very human qualities in the story of the crucifixion. The verses will be read by Ruth Bettesworth and Colin Baker who are well-known locally for their performance work. Further details and are available via www.kingcof.org/7words.
