Brian May, Queen guitarist and animal welfare campaigner, has travelled to Brussels as part of his campaign against the culling of badgers.

May joined Gavin Grant, chief executive of the RSPCA, to press for a change in European regulations which would allow vaccination of cattle in the fight against bovine tuberculosis (TB).

They will meet MEPs and officials in the Environment and Agriculture directorates general of the European Commission. May, who launched his Team Badger campaign last month, wants to stop the cull which has been approved by the Government.

A licence to kill badgers has been issued in West Somerset. Cull supporters argue the move is needed to tackle TB in cattle. But May said: “We are all focused on the battle to eradicate bovine TB.
