RABDF farm walk on improving youngstock
Livestock farmers can find out how to improve their young stock rearing at a farm walk hosted by Mary Cook at Smokey Farm, Taunton, on September 18. Organised by the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers the event will feature presentations on calf diet management, health, welfare and accommodation. There will also be an opportunity to explore youngstock rearing on the farm's 230-cow unit which features individual pen and hutch accommodation. The latest edition of the John Nix Farm Management Pocketbook paints a more optimistic picture of the year ahead for most sectors of agriculture compared with the last two. The figures are in general more upbeat than the returns for most in 2012 or 2013. If the prices and costs used are achieved, farming will enjoy a more fruitful year. Ex-farm feed wheat has been budgeted at £155 per tonne for the 2014 harvest. To order a copy phone 01664 564 508. It costs £23.00 plus postage.
