Peter Reid frustrated in attempts to secure striker for Plymouth Argyle
PLYMOUTH Argyle manager Peter Reid was frustrated in his attempts to add a striker to his squad on transfer deadline day.
But that does not mean the Pilgrims' boss has abandoned his plans to do so — far from it.
-

Reid will renew his search when Football League clubs are allowed to make 'emergency loan' signings, starting next Tuesday.
He did come close to recruiting one striker on loan from a club in Scotland, but the deal collapsed late on.
Continued speculation about Argyle offering cash-plus-striker Rory Fallon for Rotherham United's prolific goalscorer also proved inaccurate.
It had been thought Fallon could depart Home Park before the transfer window slammed shut at 6pm last night.
But any notion of that was scuppered because the 28-year-old New Zealand international has a suspected hernia.
Argyle have scored only three goals in their first five games this season, and that is a worry for Reid.
"A striker is my main priority and I haven't got one in yet," he said. "But, as everyone knows, you can still do it in seven days' time and I'm actively working on it. I thought I had one tied up but it fell through at the last minute, which was a bit of a blow for me.
"It was one that needed to get done (before the deadline) because it was a boy in Scotland. I don't want to mention his name but, unfortunately, his club got a couple of injuries and it kiboshed the deal.
"It's just one of those things," he added.
Reid has drawn up a list of targets, and hopes it will lead to a striker being signed soon.
Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart claimed Argyle had offered Fallon in part-exchange for Le Fondre, who they value at £3 million.
Stewart told the Yorkshire Post: "As far as I'm aware Adam is enjoying playing his football for Rotherham United and has not expressed a desire to leave.
"The offer from Plymouth was dismissed in seconds."
Reid told Herald Sport yesterday that speculation about Argyle making a player-plus-cash offer for Le Fondre was "absolute rubbish."
And he reiterated that when responding to the comments of the Rotherham chairman. Reid was mystified by Stewart's claims, especially as he has no money to spend in the transfer market.
"I would find it remarkable the Plymouth manager doesn't know about an offer that was made," he said.
Le Fondre has scored 35 goals in 56 games for Rotherham since being signed from Rochdale for £100,000 last August.
Fallon has been ruled out of Argyle's last two League One games because of his injury, which has been assessed by a specialist.
Reid said: "We haven't had confirmation yet, but if I was a betting man I think it might need surgery. You can't legislate for injuries in football."

“Don't suppose Mariner and Rafferty have any offspring- I think that is the only time Plymouth have had a decent strike force!”

“Please can we have one with a bit of height who knows how to use it. We must be the shortest team in the league. The only one with height is Fallon and he's useless.”

“Considered getting a striker from Scotland?? PR only needs to look around him to see what the last manager brought in from there, that was no capture only a large wage bill and players nobody else wants.”
