HOPING to be the next big indie band to emerge on the music scene are The Raptors.

The four-piece Exeter based band formed last year and have already been enjoying their first taste of success.

Towards the end of 2012, they were nominated for two accolades at the South West Music Awards – best indie punk band and best EP.

In January, The Raptors music was played on BBC Introducing and they are now due to go to London to record their EP and single with top producer Adem Hilmi at Slaughterhouse Studios – Joe Strummer's former studio.

The band features Mitch Steane, 23, on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Neil Pascoe, 25, bass guitar and vocals, Dave Broadway, 25, lead guitar, and Andy Farrow, drums, 24.

Describing The Raptors sound, Mitch said: "We're an indie band with a punk edge, and raw relatable lyrics, combined with catchy melodies and huge hooks.

"No two songs sound the same and our influences include The Libertines, Oasis, The Clash, The Kooks, Beatles, The Enemy and The Cure. We have a very energetic live sound with guitar riffs and vocal choruses that will stay in your mind."

The band hope to release their debut album later this year and are continuing to perform locally. Their next gig is at The First and Last Pub in Church Road, Exmouth, on Saturday, March 9, from 9pm. Entry is free.
