DELIVERING Positive Change was the theme of the North Devon+ annual conference.

The event discussed tough economic conditions, marketing developments, examples of local business and working together for positive change.

It investigated a wide range of barriers to growth, from low wages in Torridge to transport links and the A361, highlighted ways in which businesses can plan for future growth and detailed programmes being run in the area.

"North Devon+ has secured £3 million from DEFRA to support local projects, and we've allocated £500k in the form of small business grants," said Robin Makeig Jones North Devon+ commercial director.

"Attracting money into the area, and ensuring local people make decisions on how the money is allocated is key to the success of the programme."

Kate Little, joint head of strategic ddevelopment and planning for Torridge and North Devon, gave an overview of the changes to planning which are under way and explained how these will improve the service and remove barriers to growth.

The Changing Face Of Consumers session gave delegates an insight into how they can embrace digital marketing channels to reach new customers, and showcased how North Devon+ develops innovative products and campaigns to support tourism. Delegates witnessed a live demo of the Guardian G2 spread on North Devon and Exmoor, viewed via an iPad to play a 20-second video and activate a weblink within the printed page.
