RECORD signing Matt Tubbs says he will not be weighed down by the huge transfer fee Bournemouth paid for his services.

The striker joined his boyhood club from Crawley on Monday in a club-record deal worth £800,000.

Yet former Salisbury City man Tubbs says he is concentrating only on this weekend's npower League One encounter with Exeter City, and not how much money has been exchanged for his signature.

"There is pressure when you go into a club. As a striker you are judged on goals. As soon as I get that first goal I am sure the ball will be rolling and, hopefully, it won't stop for a while.

"To be honest, that (the transfer fee) is nothing to do with me and that is between the two clubs and my representative.

"That is up to them to discuss. I am just happy that the deal has been pushed over the line.

"Now I am a Bournemouth player, I am concentrating on today's training sessions and the Exeter game on Saturday."

Tubbs was twice on Bournemouth's books as a youngster and rejoined the Cherries on loan from Salisbury in 2008.

Yet after eight appearances his hopes of a permanent move disappeared when then-boss Jimmy Quinn was sacked, and replacement Eddie Howe opted not to keep him on.

Tubbs moved on instead to Crawley Town, where he scored 58 goals in 80 games and helped them to promotion to npower League Two last season.

Tubbs added: "This is a new chapter in my career. As a striker, you are judged on goals so I am hoping to pick up as many goals as I can during my time at Bournemouth.

"When I was at Crawley, I was lucky enough to have great players around me and taking the step up, players will be of a better standard. There is no reason why I can't regularly get on the scoresheet."
