"I'm happy with where we're at, pre-season has went very well, but now it's time for the real thing. The lads can't wait to get going and I'm the same."

The Reds have maintained the majority of their squad from last season while adding a number of talented young players from around the region. Edwards said: "We've got a really good squad and if we have to make changes I'm confident in those that have to come in."

Edwards was not involved, but last season's trip to Taunton brought an agonising 35-34 defeat. He said: "It's going to be tough up at Taunton, but they have home advantage so the pressure will be on them.I want us to go out there, enjoy it and work hard for 80 minutes.

"I've spoken to the players about Taunton and we know what to expect. They have a strong pack, but that doesn't worry me too much."

The newly-rebranded Titans are still rebuilding their squad. Head coach Tony Yapp is still hoping to add more recruits but is working to a limited budget.

He said: "We've adjusted well to the budget restrictions and with the help of Exeter Chiefs, the University and other elite level clubs we have assembled a talented squad of players.

"I would have liked a couple more old heads to 'steel' the team but as yet have not found the type of players we want for the Titans. It's a long season and there is time yet to strengthen."

The Titans will be without Tom Popham and Jemba Bull through injury as well as full back Gary Kingdom.
