Reformed Rats roll in to top the bill at Chagstock
The original Boomtown Rats are to headline the Saturday line-up at Devon's Chagstock on July 20. It is one of just two UK festivals that Bob Geldof, Pete Briquette, Garry Roberts and Simon Crowe will play this summer and their only top billing; the other appearance will be at the Isle of Wight Festival in June.
It will be the Irish New Wave pioneers' first time back on stage together since splitting up in 1986, a year after the massive exposure of Live Aid.
They join a line-up that already features Billy Bragg – who will play just before the Rats – and Dartmoor's golden folk couple Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman,
"The second I heard the name 'Shagstock' I knew that was THE festival for The Boomtown Rats," says Bob Geldof. "Only later when we agreed and signed contracts did Simon, the Rats drummer, point out it was in fact 'Chagstock', his local summer music festival. Oh well…

"It's a beautiful part of the world. Billy Bragg is a hero. The Rats are a great band. It will be a pleasure to do the Rat in Devon again."
Drummer Simon, who lives on the edge of Dartmoor, near Ashburton, adds: "I'm very excited about it. It is just brilliant to be playing with the guys again and to be doing this show in my local area. It is amazing to have the prospect of getting up and doing it all over again after all this time."
Formed in Dublin in 1975, the Boomtown Rats were one of the biggest bands of the late 1970s and early 80s, releasing a string of top ten hits – including the chart-topping Rat Trap and I Don't Like Mondays – and platinum-selling albums.
Veterans colour headline slot at beautiful festival
Britpop veterans Ocean Colour Scene (pictured), influential Scottish rock band Primal Scream, and festival founders Levellers will headline the main stage at this year's Beautiful Days at Escot in East Devon over the weekend of August 16 to 18. They will be joined on the main stage bill by Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O'Connor, hip-hop legends Arrested Development, Irish rockabilly revivalist Imelda May, Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel and The Wonder Stuff. Headliners announced for the Big Top include English folk rock singer, songwriter and guitarist Roy Harper, Irish folk legends Clannad, Spiers and Boden, and acoustic sister trio The Staves. Tickets are now on sale from the festival website.
