Refuse lorry damaged following road collapse
A MID Devon refuse lorry became stranded in a country lane near Bickleigh Castle after the edge of the road gave way causing the large vehicle to tilt into the verge at the side of the carriageway.
The road was blocked following the incident which happening while the vehicle was carrying out its rounds yesterday (Thursday, October 17). The vehicle was subsequently removed and is now undergoing repairs. Mid Devon District Council say its refuse collection operation was not affected by the vehicle being off-road as the authority had spare vehcile capacity to ensure all collections were carried out.
Local residents say this is not the first time that vehicles have gone over the edge of the road and have called upon the county council to fix the road.
