Regional buyers at Texel sheep sale
Buyers from the South West were spending cash at the Texel Sheep Society sale at Worcester last week. R C Watts, of Williton, paid 1,250gns for a gimmer from the Twelve Oaks Flock. Then at 1,020gns was a gimmer from the Tima Flock which sold to C A Smale, of South Molton. The auction saw the 66 shearling ewes average £634.45 in the sale conducted by McCartneys.
Children should learn more about farming
The new head of the children's farming education charity Farming & Countryside Education (FACE) says more needs to be done to teach the country's youngsters about where their food comes from. Incoming chief executive Dan Corlett said the challenges of food security were vital and it was essential youngsters were educated to base decisions on how their food was produced.

Owners of performance-recorded flocks are being invited to nominate rams to join the next round of Eblex's Sire Linkage Programme. The launch of the programme will see farmers with accepted rams having access to £2,500 of funding for the collection and distribution of semen straws free of charge to other breeders. The Sire Linkage Programme has helped develop genetic linkage and estimated breeding values (EBVs) in more than 30 performance recorded flocks. AHDB Crop Research Conference places
With less than a month to go until the AHDB Crop Research Conference, there are still places available. Three sessions will be chaired by leading scientists, so delegates will get an early look at the next generation of crop-protection methods and have the chance to shape future research priorities. Entitled "Knowing your enemy – the future of crop protection", the conference will feature the latest research on insect pests, weeds and crop diseases.
