Rene Gilmartin will get chance to be Plymouth Argyle's first choice keeper
RENE GILMARTIN will get the chance to stake a claim to be Plymouth Argyle's regular first choice goalkeeper.
Jake Cole had been an ever present for the Pilgrims in League Two this season until he was replaced by Gilmartin for the 2-2 draw with table-topping Gillingham at Home Park on Saturday.
Gilmartin had previously played twice for Argyle, both in cup competitions, after signing a two-year contract as a free agent in the summer.
Manager Carl Fletcher thought Gilmartin 'didn't have a great deal to do' in the game against Gillingham, but seems committed to giving him an extended run in the first team.

Fletcher told Herald Sport: "You are fair to one, you have got to be fair to the other as well.
"There might have been times in the past where we could have left Jake out, but you make the decision to stick by them and you keep going.
"I have got two good goalies here. They both work their socks off in training and are very professional, and I'm really lucky I have got both of them."
Gilmartin started his career at Walsall before signing for Watford in the summer of 2010.
He spent two seasons with the Championship club and made a total of seven appearances, as well as having loan spells at Yeovil and Crawley before being released.
Gilmartin started this term as Argyle's second choice 'keeper, behind Cole, and his debut did not come until the 2-1 home win against Aldershot Town in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on October 9.
He also played for the Pilgrims when they lost 1-0 away to part-timers Dorchester Town in the FA Cup first round on November 4.
Fletcher said: "He has had a few injuries he has had to deal with and it has been frustrating for him.
"He has just come down here and wants to be 100 per cent fit so he can give a good account of himself to push for a place.
"But you know with Reg (Gilmartin) he has played league football before, and he's 6ft 5in and has got a real big presence about him.
"I think the more games he plays he will only get better and better."
TICKET details for Argyle's away game against Devon rivals Exeter City on Saturday, December 15 (12noon) are set to be announced shortly.
