Renewed appeal after man fell from moving van in Exeter

Police have today renewed their appeal for witnesses to an incident which left a man in a critical condition in hospital.

The man was in serious condition in Derriford Hospital after falling from a moving van in Exeter, but has since made dramatic improvements, say police.

The 49-year-old man, from Draycott, near Cheddar, Somerset, suffered serious head injuries after tumbling out of a moving vehicle, possibly a taxi, at Westpoint on February 28.

The incident happened around 10.25pm when a man got into what is thought to be a taxi, described as a black medium-sized people carrier with a sliding side door, possibly a black Mercedes Vito.

He had been with friends at the National Darts Championships at Westpoint.

The driver refused to take him and the vehicle made off at speed with the victim still inside and the side door open.

The man fell out of the vehicle and sustained serious head injuries.

The man, who is from Somerset, was among a group of friends who had been at a darts event at Westpoint.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and for information to help identify the vehicle and driver involved.

The driver is described as a white man, aged 50 to 60, and of small to medium build. He was wearing a black suit type jacket.
