Artificial intelligence lesson
School students got an insight into the world of artificial intelligence as part of a special day at the University of Exeter. Pupils from Westlands School,Torquay; Parkstone Grammar School, Poole and South Dartmoor Community College, in Ashburton, learnt about how machines can learn, as well as what kind of technology we could see in the near future.
Top award for researcher
Dr Sarah Richardson, a post-doctoral research fellow at the Peninsula Medical School, has been awarded the Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation 2010 Non-Clinical Fellowship. The fellowship provides funding totaling £165,000 over a period of up to three years. Dr Richardson is a member of a team of PMS researchers who revealed that many patients newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes have evidence of viral infection in their pancreas. This provided evidence that viral infection might contribute to the development of the condition.
