Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Jake Cole is likely to be kept out of the Pilgrims' line-up for the next two weeks.

The 26-year-old was ruled out of last Saturday's exhilarating 4-0 npower League Two win at Accrington Stanley, after sustaining an injury in training.

It is thought Cole has hurt his arm, and the injury is nothing to do with the pelvis damage he suffered at Cheltenham Town on October 29.

That put him out of action for some time – the former Barnet goalkeeper did not return to the Argyle line-up until November 23, when the Pilgrims were knocked out of the FA Cup by part-time outfit Stourbridge.

Cole was taken for a scan before Saturday's match and ruled out of contention for the game. He seems sure to miss this Saturday's relegation "six-pointer" against Dagenham & Redbridge at Home Park.

Argyle, fourth from bottom of the Football League after their 4-0 thrashing of Accrington Stanley, will want to edge further away from the relegation zone with a win over the Daggers, who are bottom.

After that, Cole would be missing from the following Tuesday's League Two match at Macclesfield Town and possibly Argyle's home match with Gillingham on March 3.

Cole's deputy last Saturday was assistant coach Romain Larrieu, who had an outstanding match.

The Frenchman had not played in goal for Argyle since Cole's FA Cup return in November, but did not look at all out of place or practice.

Larrieu, a former player of the year and Argyle's most experienced 'keeper, made a stupendous save late in the game to deny Accrington a consolation goal and preserve a second consecutive clean-sheet for the Pilgrims.

It is not clear, however, who might replace Larrieu in goal, should anything unfortunate happen to him.

Argyle have just one recognised 'keeper left in their squad in Larrieu and it is assumed one of the outfield players would take over in goal should he be injured during a game, although manager Carl Fletcher declined to say who that might be when he was interviewed after Saturday's match at the Crown Ground.

Cole is a veteran of a couple of League Two relegation battles with his former club, Barnet. The 26-year-old arrived at Argyle last summer from the Underhill outfit.

Argyle's third-choice 'keeper, Ollie Chenoweth, is on loan to Truro City at present.

Argyle took the opportunity to give a run-out to six of their full-time professionals plus apprentice strikers Matt Lecointe and Jared Sims in last night's 3-2 Westinsure Devon St Luke's Cup quarter-final victory at Home Park against Elburton Villa.

The Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Premier Division side gave a good account of themselves despite going a goal behind after just four minutes, when Luke Daley headed home at the far post.

The game exploded into life after five minutes of the second half, with Ladjie Soukouna playing in Isaac Vassell to double Argyle's lead.

Villa hit back with Justin Crowley firing home from 18 yards but Daley had crashed home his second of the game before Tony Biddle fired home Villa's second goal, from close range, to end a manic five-minute spell.
