Royal Marine to face trial on assault charge
A Chivenor-based Royal Marine is to face a jury trial accused of kicking a man during a fight in Barnstaple.
Jack Scott, aged 21, denies causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Jack Seymour during an incident on June 22 this year. Scott, of Longfellow Close, Liverpool, has admitted the lesser charge of causing grievous bodily harm but the Crown Prosecution Service have decided to take the matter to trial.
Exeter Crown Court heard Scott is a serving Royal Marine currently living at camp. He has previously trained at the Commando Training Centre at Lympstone, near Exmouth.
Judge Francis Gilbert, QC, adjourned the case for a case management hearing on November 29 and a trial at Exeter in July next year. He granted Scott conditional bail.
