Rugby star Matt oversees world's biggest scone bid
A South Devon bakery proved it's the cream of the crop yesterday as it held on to the title for baking the world's biggest scone.
TV cameras filmed the record being smashed on Torquay seafront yesterday for a new 10-part Channel 4 show called Monster Munchies presented by former England international rugby star Matt Dawson.
Hallett's the Bakers from Paignton overcame stiff competition from chefs at the Grand Hotel in Torquay during the weekend duel for the record-breaking title.
Defeated Grand Hotel head chef Richard Hunt said: "Hallets scone was six foot across and we lost on a jury decision. They based it on volume, presentation and taste, but we did have the biggest scone.

"We are a little disappointed, but just to have achieved this is something.
"Hallets are a bakery full time and we are a hotel, so I have been doing my normal duties as well."
The Monster Munchies show will be broadcast on UKTV this autumn winter season.

“after tasting both scones halletts scone was bolder and tasted like a scone unlike the grand hotels scone which tasted bland and was as flat as a pancake also i believe halletts bakery is a 24 hour a day business so the bakers still had to produce their normal work duties too.”

“If they held the title for the world's biggest scone, how comes it is Sandfords bakery in Torrington that holds the record in the Guiness Book of World Records.”

“if you want the real story contact hallets the grand hotel are sore losers a lot of people at the event thought their scone looked like a giant pizza”
