A 200m safety cordon was put into place in Yelverton in the early hours of the morning after a car collided with a gas main.

Fire crews were called to Dousland Road at around 3.40am following reports of a collision with somebody still trapped inside the vehicle.

An ambulance crew was able to remove the casualty from the car and take them to Derriford Hospital.

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said a gas meter box had been damaged by the vehicle and a 200m safety cordon was established. Crews stood by with hose reels and breathing apparatus while the gas board made the supply safe.
