local community groups the opportunity  to come along and try it out. The £12,000

funding for the floor and associated safety padding has been generously donated

by Devon County Councillor, Alison Boyle as part of the funding from the sale

of Exeter Airport.

Councillor Boyle will cut the ribbon and declare the floor officially

open on Sunday, September 30 at twelve o' clock and then the rest of the

afternoon will be available for groups to come along and experience a free

thirty minute session of gymnastics or free running in the fully equipped gym

centre. Lead Coach, Michelle Gordon said "We are absolutely over the moon with

the sprung floor. It is making a huge difference to all that the gymnasts and

free runners can achieve. The club is so grateful to Councillor Boyle for her

support and encouragement and we cannot thank her enough. Between them,

Bideford Town Council, The Bideford Bridge Trust and Councillor Boyle, have

enabled us to create Bideford's own Olympic gymnastics legacy for all members

of the community to use and enjoy".

During the afternoon, ten, thirty minute slots are available

for groups of up to thirty participants to come along and have a go. This is

open to any community group of type, age, boys and girls, men and women, on a

first come, first served basis. No special equipment is needed other than

wearing shorts/leggings and a T shirt. Michelle continued" Gymnastics, as well

as being a great sport in itself, is

brilliant for improving the flexibility, balance, core stability and

strength needed in all sport so we want as many people as possible to come along

and give it a try. If we fill all the slots it will mean that 300 participants

who watched it at the Olympics have been able to try it for themselves"

To book a session on the Sunday either ring Joy on 0776524846

or email nddgymclub@yahoo.co.uk

Sessions will be allocated on a first come first served

basis. If there is a big demand  the club

will run another community day in October [ Date to be confirmed].
