Schools comments attacked
LABOUR councillors on the county council are questioning why a leading Conservative made 'disparaging' comments about Exeter schools.
Councillor Saxon Spence has tabled a question for tomorrow's cabinet meeting.
Cllr Spence said recent comments by Councillor Christine Channon during a council meeting suggested youngsters were being failed by the comprehensive system. It says: "In view of the excellent GCSE results in Exeter comprehensive schools this summer, would she now retract the comments she made at the last county council meeting which showed a worrying lack of confidence in the schools for which she is responsible?"
Councillor Spence added that she was delighted with the recent performance of Exeter's schools.
