Seven from Plymouth and Liverpool will face trial on drug plot charge

SEVEN men – four from Plymouth and three from Liverpool – are to face trial next May accused of conspiracy to supply hard drugs.

Six of them were among nine defendants appearing in custody yesterday at Plymouth Crown Court.

All faced the charge of conspiring with Liam John Sullivan and others unknown to supply class A drugs between January 1 last year and May 29 this year.

Three men pleaded guilty: John Ward, aged 18 and of Embankment Road, Prince Rock, Karl Corson, aged 20 and of Tresillian Street, Cattedown, and Patrick White, aged 18 and of Wolseley Crescent, Liverpool.

Six men pleaded not guilty: Stephen Kearns, aged 19 and of Hornby Place, Liverpool, Elliot Barlow, aged 23 and of Lenham Way, Liverpool, John Cavanagh, aged 49 and of Barbrook Way, Liverpool, Patrick Mooney, aged 21 and of Berkshire Drive, Ford, Plymouth, Joseph Pines, aged 21 and of Archer Place, North Road West, Plymouth and Carl Barlow, aged 21 and of Savage Road, Barne Barton.

Wayne Harle-Stephens, aged 56 and of The Parade, Plymouth, is on bail having pleaded not guilty at a previous hearing.

In custody awaiting sentence are three people who pleaded guilty at previous hearings.

They are Alison Bates, aged 42 and of Mintor Street, Liverpool, James Griffin, aged 19 and of East Lancashire Road, Liverpool, and Lee Ellis, aged 54 and of Camperdown Street, Stoke in Plymouth.

All the defendants except Wayne Harle-Stephens are in custody.

Judge Graham Cottle said the defence barristers would receive an updated prosecution case summary by the end of February, a pre-trial hearing would be held in April "to iron out any difficulties" and the trial would start at Plymouth Crown Court in mid-May with him as the trial judge.
