Seven hotels in Devon and Cornwall take honours in world travel awards
Hotels in the Westcountry swept the board at the industry's annual "Oscars" awards after winning ringing endorsements from guests across the world.
A total of seven hotels in Devon and two in Cornwall won top rankings from European visitors in the Travellers Choice Hotel Awards, organised by travel website TripAdvisor.
Meanwhile, the Boskerris Hotel in St Ives was also named as providing among the best service in Europe by guests who had travelled from all over the world.
The Old Rectory Hotel, in Exmoor National Park, won second place in the list of Best British Hotels.

Owners Huw Rees and Sam Prosser, said they were over the moon: "We are absolutely delighted and very grateful to our guests who obviously like what we do.
"It's a big feather in our caps," said Mr Rees.
The Tremarne Hotel in the picturesque Cornish port of Mevagissey, was named at 25 in the list. Owners Michael Judge and Fitz Kelly-Doyle said they were delighted.
"It's fabulous news," said Mr Judge. "We're really grateful to the guests who take the trouble to vote for us and review us so positively. The main thing for us is that guests have had as enjoyable a stay as possible."
In St Ives, the Boskerris Hotel took third place in the list and won accolade of Best Service in Europe by travellers from all over the world.
The hotel is closed until February 25 and owners Jonathan and Marianne Thompson were unavailable for comment.
Overall Devon faired exceptionally well in the poll compiled by the travel website and based on the experiences of millions of travellers from around the world.
Properties in Devon which have cause to celebrate also include the Charterhouse Hotel, Torquay, placed 4th; Elmdene Hotel, Torquay, was 7th; Haytor Hotel, Torquay, 9th; Seawood Hotel, Exmoor, 11th; Yeoldon House Hotel, Bideford, 12th and Dunkery Beacon Hotel, Exmoor, 14th.
Marion Ward, owner of the Charterhouse Hotel said: "We're thrilled to be recognised by TripAdvisor as a 2011 Travellers' Choice award-winning hotel.
"We believe our commitment to providing our guests with outstanding service and value has helped us achieve this tremendous honour from TripAdvisor travellers for the second year running."
TripAdvisor spokeswoman Emma O'Boyle said it was Devon's hospitality which has the earned recognition.
"Not only were seven of the top 25 Best British Hotels in Devon, but four of these properties were actually in the top ten."
