Storytelling, seafood and shanty music filled The Seiners pub at Perranporth for the launch of Stamp & Go's new CD, writes Gemma Tregellas.

The album, called Sail Away, follows the success of their debut, Waiting For Low Tide, and contains a selection of traditional songs, including Cornwall My Home, Shoals Of Herring, Sea Dogs and Cape Cod Girls.

The band – Dave Shaw, Stuart Thorn, Nigel Hallworth, Lesley Hallworth, Malcolm Hill and Phil Hughes – are all from Perranporth and comprise a painter, doctor, postman, builder, medical worker and teacher. They formed in 2008 to sing mining and sea shanties and the occasional classic Cornish pub song. Many of their songs are written by Nigel.

As well as Stamp & Go themselves, the launch party for Sail Away featured the talents of storyteller Annamaria Murphy renowned Cornish actor Bec Appleby.

All profits from the launch will be going to the Shipwrecked Mariner's Society, which was founded in 1839 as a result of the tragic loss of a fleet of fishing boats on the North Devon coast the previous year. Today, the society still gives help in the event of shipwreck, but its main purpose is to provide financial support to retired or disabled seafarers and their widows and partners.
