THE proposed new library at Cullompton is presumably intended to serve both the town and the Culm Valley, yet it is situated over 400 metres from the nearest public car park, with no general parking spaces.

Such a facility requires ease of access by car as well as by foot and if it was possible to position the new building in part of the existing Station Road car park it would then be within easy walking distance of over 200 parking spaces at Tesco. There would also be some remaining spaces in the existing car park.

The site of the old Health Centre in the Lower Bull Ring could then become a public car park, giving easy access to the lower end of Fore Street, and helping the shops in that area.

This provision of close, easily accessible parking in each case would greatly help both the new library and the Fore Street shopping area.
