HAVING seen Ryan Mason return to Tottenham Hotspur yesterday, Yeovil Town manager Terry Skiverton wasted little time in filling the void left by the highly-rated on-loan midfielder.

Within hours of Mason's departure, the Glovers' boss was already welcoming a new face into Huish Park as 22-year-old Scott Davies agreed a loan move from Coca-Cola Championship outfit Reading.

Davies, who is a former Republic of Ireland youth international, has been thrust straight into the Yeovil squad which will travel to Carlisle United for a League One fixture tonight.

Buoyed by last Saturday's 4-0 home win over Hartlepool United, Skiverton hopes that his team can continue their impressive form of late and claim the scalp of a Carlisle side – one which sits a place below them in the current standings.

Certainly Davies, who has featured for both the Royals and Wycombe Wanderers this season, is likely to feature in Skiverton's plans. With Mason having gone home following a successful loan spell, one which saw him make 29 appearances and score six goals for the Somerset club, plus the suspension of Gavin Williams and a doubt over Jean-Paul Kalala, a place on the bench is the very least he can expect this evening.

Yesterday Reading's director of football, Nicky Hammond, said the move would be beneficial not only to both clubs, but the player himself.

"This is a good opportunity for Scott to go and play some games," Hammond said. "He has been training well for us since coming back from his loan at Wycombe, but we've had a number of midfielders ahead of him recently. He'll be available for us again once the month is complete, and will be ready and match fit."

As well as the arrival of Davies, Skiverton also confirmed that Dean Bowditch – a goalscorer in Saturday's win – should be fit to face Carlisle.

The striker has been troubled by a niggling hamstring injury in recent weeks, but Skiverton admitted that his withdrawal from the action at the weekend was merely precautionary in a bid to make sure he was raring to go for the game at Brunton Park.

Bowditch was switched from a striking role to that of right-winger on Saturday, following the dismissal of Gavin Williams.

Skiverton explained: "Because he was on the right, I didn't really want him running up and down. His hamstring wasn't tight at all. It was just a measure to bring him off to save him for Tuesday."

The diagnosis on Kalala, however, is not so clear. Like Bowditch, the Congolese midfielder – now in his second spell with the club – has been struggling with a hip injury in recent times. He went straight down the tunnel with club physio Simon Baker at the weekend, and is a doubt for this evening.

"We don't know yet," said Skiverton when asked about Kalala. "We're icing it and we'll give it as long as possible."

Meanwhile, Carlisle club skipper Paul Thirlwell is expected to return to the starting line-up for the home side. Thirlwell, a late substitute in Saturday's 2-1 home win over Colchester United, is a likely straight swap for Tom Taiwo, who sits out a one-game ban after his dismissal for two yellow cards. Aside from that, boss Greg Abbott is not expected to make any other changes.
