Soldier's shame after child abuse images found on his laptop

A SOLDIER has been ordered to attend a treatment programme for sex offenders after indecent images of children were found on his laptop computer.

Marcus Yeoman also had other "extreme" pornographic images, Plymouth Crown Court was told.

The 35-year-old was handed a three-year-community order yesterday, after being found guilty following a trial in August.

The jury convicted him of eight charges of possessing indecent images of children and one charge of possessing extreme pornographic images.

Yeoman, who gave his address as 14 Regiment Royal Artillery in Larkhill, Salisbury, possessed the images while in Plymouth and Salisbury between March and May last year.

Prosecutor Alistair Verheijen agreed with comments made by Judge Graham Cottle that Yeoman pre-sentence report suggested he appeared to have only made a "partial acceptance" of his offences.

Mitigating for Yeoman, barrister Deni Matthews said none of the images were stored in the computer so they could be "readily accessed".

Mr Matthews also noted that the majority of the images found were of adults.

He added: "If you feel that it has to be a custodial sentence that would be the end of his military career."

Judge Cottle ordered Yeoman to undertake an internet sex offenders treatment programme, be subject to a three year community order and pay court costs of £1,000.
