UNIQUE Jazz quartet, Sons of Kemet, play the Gallery Café next week.

The group is the brainchild of young reeds player and BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, Shabaka Hutchings.

Hutchings' ambition for this ensemble was to assemble the most unlikely of line-ups and allow them free rein for their distinct musical personalities to shine through.

Sebastian "Seb" Rochford is a British drummer and bandleader who spans many musical genres and Oren Marshall is a pioneering player of acoustic and electric tuba who has collaborated with the likes of Radiohead and the London Philharmonic.

On drums is Tom Skinner. Thus with the use of two sets of drums, the tuba, sax and clarinet, this is a very striking band indeed.

Sons Of Kemet are at in the Gallery Café, Queen's Theatre, Barnstaple on Wednesday, March 13, 8pm. Tickets: £11 (adult), £10 (member), £5 (young person or student). Box office: 01271 324242 or visit www.northdevontheatres. org.uk
