Space project offers one-way ticket to Mars
Are you good in groups and can you keep your cool under pressure? Well you could be the ideal candidate for a mission to Mars – the only catch is, you won’t ever return to Earth.
A private space project named Mars One is looking for people to travel to the Red Planet, and live out the rest of their days there.
In an interview which aired last week on CBC Radio, entrepreneur Bas Lansdorp told Day 6: “Our goal is to send humans to Mars and settle mankind on the Red Planet, and we can only do that with current-day technology if we forget about the return mission.
“The technology to get human to Mars and keep them alive there exists – the technology to bring humans from Mars back to Earth simply does not exist yet.”

The tycoon said his team was looking for “old-fashioned explorers” who “are at their best when things are at their worst”.
“They need to be utterly dependable and they need to know when to lead and they need to know when to follow; they need to be people that are very good in groups,” he said.
The team of successful candidates – who will be sent to Mars at a cost of more than $6 billion – will be trained for eight years before they depart.
The first crew of four people is due to leave Earth in September 2022, and land on Mars at the end of April 2023.
They will construct their new home and grow their own food, and spend the rest of their days exploring the Red Planet.
Every two years thereafter, another group will join the settlement.
A number of rovers will be dispatched to Mars before the first human crew leaves Earth, to seek out the best location for them and put equipment in place.
Bas Lansdorp said 8,000 people from across the globe have expressed an interest in taking part in the mission.
