TWO friends from Plymouth are walking 500 miles across northern Spain to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Chris Heard and Doreen Szolomicki are tackling the pilgrimage way Camino de Santiago in memory of Chris's husband Ted, who died of the disease.

Chris and Doreen will be accompanied on 200 miles of the route by Lydia Baretto, dubbing themselves The Blisterhood.

Chris said: "While my husband was suffering from Motor Neurone Disease, friends told us that they had walked part of the Camino de Santiago crossing the Pyrenees and how beautiful it was.

"My walk will be dedicated to my husband Ted who bore his illness so bravely and to Carole, who made the Pilgrimage sound so easy and was so full of encouragement.
