Spikedrivers bring infectious grooves and gutsy slide guitar to the George Hotel in South Molton
THE Spikedrivers combine gutsy slide guitar, rock-solid bass, infectious grooves and distinctive vocals at the George Hotel, on Friday.
The three-piece aim to take you on a journey, from southern juke-joints and lazy front porches to the huge open spaces of dust bowls with railroad tracks that disappear into the distance.
"Booking a band that has been compared to The Band, Led Zeppelin, Ry Cooder, JJ Cale, Pentangle, Fleetwood Mac and even Pink Floyd offers a promise of really exciting things to come," said George owner Cathy Doel.
"The Spikedrivers' music is a fusion of many native styles, and has been described as haunting, gutsy, tribal and even psychedelic, so you can expect a night of real passionate entertainment. Blues in Britain says, 'From the first note, Spikedrivers demand to be listened to', which gives you a real reason to come and hear their electric performance."

Raised in the deep south of the United States, Ben Tyzack's guitar playing combines the raw delta blues of Robert Johnson with the powerful soundscapes of Jimmy Page. The singer is said to have a soulful, distinctive voice and a commanding stage presence. In 1992 he formed the Spikedrivers with bassist Constance Redgrave and percussionist Maurice McElroy.
Constance was born in Los Angeles of Native American roots, and has naturally transferred her genetic tribal rhythms into the simple, rock-solid bass lines that are her trademark.
Maurice McElroy's passion for the colour and texture of Flamenco and African instruments makes for a very individual percussive style.
Catch the Spikedrivers at The George Hotel, South Molton on Friday, April 5, 8.30pm. Tickets, £10 at www.wegottickets.com/event/207685 or phone 01769 572514.
