STAFF at Sainsbury's in Barnstaple have kick started a year of fundraising for the North Devon Hospice.

Employees at the Barnstaple store chose the hospice as their charity of the year because it "touches the lives of so many local people".

The store made a good start to the 12-month campaign by raising £250 with a raffle featuring a host of prizes, from deck chairs to barbecues.

Store manager Stuart Kinghorn said: "The team have got lots of good ideas – from bag packing days to a fashion show – so I'm really looking forward to seeing it all come to fruition."
