Sun shines for fun run
IT WAS Hatherleigh Youth Club's annual Fun Run day on Friday last week, and for a while it looked as though the children would be disappointed when rain fell in buckets an hour or so before the start time.
But the sun came out, the cobbles in the churchyard glistened, and though a few puddles remained in the Square, nobody's enthusiasm was dampened.
There was great pre-race excitement as the burger stall set up and delicious smells filled the air.
The parents were perhaps even more competitive than their offspring as they cheered their children on and waited anxiously for them to reappear down the church yard path and up to the finish line.
While the younger children (up to the age of five) ran a comparatively short route – up the hill and back – the distance increased considerably for the older children.
Nearly 50 children participated in the event, organised by Hatherleigh Youth Club and the results were as follows: 0-5 boys – 1 Isaac Tucker, 2 Bodie Carter, 3 Harry Edwards–Brady; 0-5 girls – I Zara Plaskett, 2 Eve Smallacombe, 3 Orla Pease; 5-7 boys – 1 Tyler Salt, 2 Kai Dennis, 3 William Smallacombe; 5-7 girls: – I Jazmine Willets, 2 Casey Plaskett, 3 Amelie Campbell; 8-10 boys – 1 Vinnie Dawson, 2 Alex Harrison, 3 Josh Bowden; 8-10 girls – 1.
