Surfer helped to shore at Woolacombe after suffering cramp

A surfer suffering from cramp was rescued from the sea at Woolacombe.

Two dog walkers contacted the coastguard after spotting the surfer in difficulty at around 1.30pm yesterday.

Ilfracombe's all-weather and inshore lifeboats launched and while crews made their way to the scene two other surfers helped the man and brought him back to shore.

A spokesman for Swansea Coastguard said the man had got into difficulty while attempting to paddle back to the beach.

He was checked by paramedics and said to be "tired and suffering from cramp" but otherwise well.
