Swapping hearse for bike trek
BRIXHAM funeral director Ian Loram will soon be swapping his funeral garb for biker leathers when he leads a group of bikers on a Land's End to John O'Groats charity bike ride.
Mr Loram will lead 15 members of the Devon branch of the Norton Owners' Club on the charity cross country bike ride in aid of Devon Air Ambulance.
Mr Loram, who runs the firm with T and I Stockman with his wife Vanessa and sons Dominic and Seb, is a long-time Norton aficionado and owns one of, if not the largest, privately owned Norton collections in the country.
He is one of the founders of the Devon branch and his collection of more than 40 motorbikes ranges from a 1921 Norton Big Four to a 2010 Commando 961.

About the charity bike ride, he said: "It's going to be a great trip. Most of the riders will be on Norton Commandos, although one rider will be on one of the rotary engine machines.
"We're hoping for a safe ride without any dramas but just on the off chance, we will be accompanied by a van with some tools and a bike trailer.
"On the way north we will be visiting the new Norton factory at Donnington Park, where we will be treated to lunch, a tour of the factory and a chance to ride the demonstrator bikes on the circuit. We're really looking forward to it."
The charity ride begins on Thursday, September 13, and the riders should arrive in the far north of Scotland on Sunday, September 15.
Mr Loram is a proud supporter of the Bikers Make A Difference (BMAD) charity and is a regular visitor to the Paignton bike nights riding different bikes from his collection. He added: "I love riding this bike and I use it whenever I can. It cost almost £6,000 to fully restore and with its wide handle bars, it's very easy to control and a joy to ride."
BMAD chairman Andy Hobbs said: "Ian has been a great supporter of BMAD for many years, he's always keen to bring a variety of bikes down to Paignton Green and also opens his collection at least once a year for members to enjoy."
