TV presenter Kate Humble becomes patron of South Molton hen charity
Television presenter Kate Humble has become a patron of the British Hen Welfare Trust which is run from South Molton.
Kate, who with husband Ludo runs a farm in Monmouthshire, first approached the charity in June 2012 to adopt some of their hens.

She said: "When we heard about the British Hen Welfare Trust, we thought we'd try some of their ex-battery hens; after a little bit of scrapping, pecking and feather-pulling early on, my little flock of 20 are now all very happy together. We just love being able to eat fresh, healthy eggs from happy free ranging birds that we know are well cared for."
Kate soon became hooked on the hens and became more involved with the work of charity.

She said: "It started with collecting my first batch of ex-bats at the very glamorous Cardiff Services car park, and now we've started doing British Hen Welfare Trust rehoming days from our farm just outside Monmouth. It has become a passion."
The British Hen Welfare Trust, which was set up in 2005, has so far re-homed over 350,000 commercial laying hens.
Founder Jane Howorth said: "Kate is a great ambassador for the charity and we are thrilled to have her on board as a patron. She is a hands-on hen lover who truly believes in the aims of our organisation, encouraging support for the free range egg industry by asking consumers to buy products containing British free range eggs. And her involvement in running hen rehoming days for the public for us is invaluable."
