Talks under way to bring back Torquay seafront wheel
TORBAY Council is in talks with the operators of the English Riviera Wheel (pictured above) to try to get it back to Torquay.
The English Riviera Observation Wheel left with a bang when its operators, Mellors Group, paid for a fireworks display for the town in December before it left for London.

After the success of its first season towering over the Pavilion and lighting up the town's night skies, tourism chiefs said they hoped it would be back — and included it in their promotional material for 2013.
Mayor of Torbay, Gordon Oliver, said he hoped the wheel would be back when he addressed a recent industry briefing.

A Torbay Council spokesman said: "We are very much hoping the Riviera Wheel will return to the Bay in 2013 and Torbay Council is currently in discussions with Mellors Group to hopefully make this happen."

Jessops have not cut their losses and gone from just Torquay, the group as a whole has gone into administration, so it is nothing to do with Torquay.
I suspect the charity shop is the YMCA which is not a new one, it has moved premises.”

“I walked down the Torquay Town Centre today....there is another charity shop, the YMCA, opened where Monsoon was and I see that Jessops have now cut their losses and moved away, leaving another empty shop.”

“While not denigrating the Wheel in the slightest I have to ask how this installtion stacks up against the vociferous campaing for no development of Princess gardens and the current Mayor's pledge that he would not let anything change the beautiful vista of the gardens between the Pavilion and the Princess Theatre. Does anybody have a good, sensible answer”

“it would be good to install public public pay as you go charging ports for electric bikes and vehicles using rapid chargers in torquay. that would encourage electric vehicles and bikes usage and create something new for the area and would be simple. little things like this would make torbay unique.”

“Good idea if it happens it would be a positive thing.It will help to bring tourists into the area.
The Bay over the next 2-3 years should be gearing up for more tourist (attracting more etc) with the South Devon Link road being completed, Torbay will be one (if not the most) accessible Seaside Resorts on the South Coast of Britain.So a 5 star hotel would do bad in the Bay.”

“The wheel looked fantastic there on princess gardens, especially lit up at night, it gave the front a buzz and I think we should do everything we can to encourage it`s return. after all there is precious little else to entice and entertain.”

But before you do, have a think about how many people were brought to the harbour area by the wheel last summer, how much revenue it generated by it just being there and how the perception of Torbay was altered for the better by what, in fact, was a highly successful attraction.
I swear to God, the shear bloody stupidity of you people just beggars belief.”
