Tamar bridge and ferry tolls could rise by 13 per cent for Plymouth commuters
TAMAR bridge and ferry tolls could go up by 13per cent in April next year.
And regular users could be hit with a monthly charge for the pre-paid tag.
-

The increase could mean that car drivers face having to pay another 20p for crossing the river into Plymouth.
The existing toll is £1.50, or 75p for people with a Tamar Tag.

“The bridge and ferries don't maintain themselves, Charlie. They have been losing money for years, hence the increase in tolls.”

“..nickthompson said- 'the Tamar Bridge carries approximately 40,000 vehicles every day. It is co-owned by Plymouth City Council and Cornwall Council'..
So that's an average of about 40,000 quid a day going into somebody's pockets, I think I'd like to be a councillor..;)”

“Good job I live in Gunnislake and can go over the small bridge, throwing away my tag now. Getting ridiculous.”

“Quite willing to accept taxpayers money ... while saying those that are going to work to pay you in your hour of need should divert if they feel they feel they are being ripped off in an arrogant manner .Thanks for your self admitted stupidity and arrogance . Not that it was needed ,because anyone reading your posts can see right through you ... as I did .”

“I'm afraid you are incorrect Jabba. In my entire life I only claimed Job seeker's allowance once, that was for a period of less than 12 months and a decade ago. I have received no other benefits. I pay plenty of tax and hopefully will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
Apology accepted.”

“Just add the music...
Oh dear what can the matter be,
Have to cross the bridge from Monday to Saturday,
Just to be shafted more often than poor Lady Chatterley,
And nobody seems to care.”

“@timplymouth .. or should I say after reading your posts over the last year or so that you are one of those on benefits for some reason or other and and despise the "normal" person that pays your way . Hit a nerve now ?”

“Four @'s in one hour Jabba, I guess I hit a nerve :)
The fact is that the bridge was built by PCC and CCC as a toll bridge to be operated alongside the Torpoint ferry. Before the bridge existed you would have had to take a more expensive ferry or drive around.
If you live in Saltash but work in Plymouth that was your own choice and you knew full well that the tolls would go up.
So yes, I think the Ferry and Bridge should both pay for themselves through charging the people who use them. What could be fairer than that?”
