Justin Knox, an instructor from British Cycling, ran mountain bike session for young Taw Velo riders at the Park Community School, Barnstaple, on Saturday.

The club, which has more than 100 members, also covers road and track cycling as well as bike riding for pleasure.

Darren Armstrong, of Taw Velo, said: "The sessions allow riders of all ages and abilities to take part. The training develops the rider's ability on a bike and covers fundamental skills such as braking, cornering, pedalling, rider position and bike maintenance.

"As the rider's skills develop one of the objectives is to encourage them to take part in competitive cycling throughout the South West."
