Metal thieves have stolen 25 tonnes of silver-plated brass taps valued at £70,000.

Police believe that a large red and white truck, possibly with a dark car and a small white panel van, were used during the raid on a scrap metal company.

The thieves struck at Gormans Metals Ltd, in Newton Abbot, Devon.

The truck was parked in a business park next to the metals yard.

Officers said the area was fairly quiet due to Sunday trading, with most of the premises in the area shut.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "This large amount of metal will need to be offloaded and sold to someone.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have been offered silver-plated brass taps.

"In addition we would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything around the time of the incident."

The taps were stolen from the yard on Kingsteignton Road between 5pm and 9pm on February 10.

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to call police on 101.
