THORVERTON wrapped up the C Division title in style as they bowled Seaton out for 100 on their way to winning by nine wickets.

Nick Barton (3-13) and Jono Henderson (3-12) ripped through the Seaton batting order before Ali Fury fired an undefeated 66 to race home.

Skipper Graham Hess said the club are already on the look out for new players after gaining promotion to the third tier of the Devon League.

"We have come a long way quite quickly, but there isn't much time to take stock," said Hess.

"One or two players have indicated they will be less involved next year so we are already looking around for new players.

"It is a bit early to say who, but players know we have a good set up here and are already showing some interest."

While there were celebrations for Thorverton, Clyst Hydon suffered heartbreak on the final day as they missed out on promotion behind them.

They started the day in second place but were beaten at Hatherleigh and had to settle for a fourth-placed finish.

Dhanuja Nandana and Kev Sercombe both bagged a brace of wickets as Hatherleigh closed on 149 for seven.

The visitors were bowled out for 109, with Graham Trude top scoring with 45.

There was also a disappointing end to the season for Tiverton & Bickleigh, who won their final D Division game at Feniton but were relegated as Whitchurch picked up a surprise victory against Ashburton.

Tivvy did what they had to do, winning at Acland Park by 60 runs, but it wasn't enough and they go down to E Division with Uplyme & Lyme Regis.

Jason Parr was the star of the show for Tiverton with a top score of 71 in their total of 240 for eight and then took five for 40 as the hosts were bowled out for 180.

Richard Pugsley (59) and Jerry Kelland (33) both chipped in to boost Tivvy's total.

Elsewhere, Bradninch took a winning draw from their final game of the Premier Division season in a high scoring game at North Devon.

Gary Chappell (84) and Tim Piper (57) put on 147 for the opening wicket but, thereafter, only skipper Ross Acton (45) made a decent contribution in their 243 for nine.

North Devon, led by South African Matt Nobes who hit 121, closed on 214 for eight.

Chappell completed a fine all-round effort with three for 30 and Dan Hardy (3-43) also claimed three wickets.

Sandford completed their A Division campaign with a two-wicket defeat to Alphington.

Matt Theedom top scored with 46 and skipper Adrian Small chipped in with 25 as Sandford declared on 207 for nine.

B Division champions Shobrooke Park suffered a surprise defeat when they lost to Clyst St George, who stayed up as a result.

Overseas star Ross Knoll signed off in style with an unbeaten 40 and a three-wicket haul.

Justin Dollow (27) and Pete Turner (22) were the only other home batsmen to make any impression in a total of 171 for seven.

Skipper Chris Ford is looking forward to rubbing shoulders with some big clubs next season.

"It's wonderful for the club to think that next summer we will lock horns with Sandford," he said.

"We have always considered them to be the big side in this patch, with ourselves very much as the pretenders.

"To play in that game next season is one that I am sure everybody at the club will want to be involved in.

"We also have home and away meetings with Exeter and Torquay to boot, it's really something to savour."

Ford is going to put himself forward to lead the side into next season and hopes that Knoll will also be back.

Ford says: "He (Knoll) has to go back home where he is taking a mechanics course. It seems highly likely that Ross will return to help us next year."

Cheriton Fitzpaine's last game if their first season of league cricket ended in defeat as they went down by 109 runs at Shaldon in F Division.

The home side batted first and made 200 for five and then skittled the Cherries for 91.

Jim Cutler, son Phil and Ben Coe claimed wickets for Cheriton and Coe hit a fine 43 in the reply.

Skipper Charles Sheldrake said: "We came into the season with our eyes wide open as to the challenge ahead and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

"Finishing bottom naturally means we must go cap in hand to the league to ask for the chance to come back and try again next season, and I sincerely hope they allow us to as we have enjoyed this year and will look to do better next time around."

Cullompton beat Hemyock by nine wickets in the Culm Valley derby at Landspeed Meadow.

The visitors batted first and it was skipper John Hurley who provided the top score of 36 in a total of 131 for eight. Opposite number Craig Hawkins picked up four for 11 from a three-over spell.

Richard Berry hit 77 before he became the one home batsman to fall in the successful run chase. Dave Percy (35no) and Joe Teape (6no) saw Cully over the winning line.

Spencer Popham spanked a magnificent unbeaten 128, leading Culmstock to a six-wicket win over visiting Newton St Cyres.

Dave Harris hit an unbeaten 40 as the visitors made 184 for six, with home skipper John Pyle taking three for 35.

Popham and Russell Geach (31) put on 134 for the first wicket before Geach fell. Carl Downes took three for 49.
