EXETER City boss Paul Tisdale believes he may have found the perfect strike partner for Richard Logan in Jamie Cureton.

The duo have combined to great effect in the last two games, during which the Grecians have beaten Yeovil Town 3-1 and Chalrton Athletic 1-0.

And Tisdale believes that they could become a pairing to be feared by defences all over npower League One if they are able to maintain their form and fitness.

The St James's Park chief said: "Logie had one of his best games for a long time last Tuesday night — I can't remember the last time he played 90 minutes that well.

"We all know he is capable of that and it would be nice to get him a regular strike partner. It looks like Jamie could be that person.

"Sometimes strike partnerships evolve and land in your lap. Logie and Jamie played some games together in pre-season before (fellow strikers) Daniel Nardiello or John O'Flynn signed and they have got a good understanding.

"I'm not saying the others can't mix that up, but at the moment they look a really good partnership."

So far this season Tisdale has preferred to start the majority of matches with new signings Nardiello and O'Flynn up front, before introducing the likes of Cureton and Logan later in the game.

That strategy paid dividends again on Saturday, when the fresh legs of Logan and Cureton combined to win an injury-time penalty for the Grecians, which Ryan Harley converted to hand the hosts a 1-0 win.

And Tisdale admitted he is relishing the opportunity to utilise the different options he has in his squad.

"It's great to have two partnerships like that. Sometimes it is the strikers who come on that get the rewards and that's the culture you want," he said.

"We have four strikers working in combination and they all play in different ways. I have got to the point in the past where certain players do better in certain situations and maybe we will get to that again.

"There is good competition for places and it's the first time we have had that since two or three years ago. I'm liking the look of what I see from our strikers."

Meanwhile, stand-in captain Steve Tully required stitches in the head wound he sustained during Saturday's match.

The wing-back, who was wearing the armband in the absence of Matt Taylor and David Noble, clashed heads with Charlton's Akpo Sodje.

After initially signalling he would not be able to continue, a patched-up Tully returned to the action in the dying moments as City clung on for their first league win of the season.

And after the match the defender was able to get full medical treatment on the injury.

Tisdale said: "The physio said he had no chance of coming back out and the next moment he is back on with a bandage on his head.

"He's going to have a nasty gash there. I asked if it was worth stitches, to which the rest of the team answered 'yes'. Steve caught a bad one."
