They walked down from the pre-school to Oddicombe beach.

Ann Close, pre-school manager, said: "The children were dressed as super heroes and princesses for the day and were sent on a mission to rescue Princess Rhianna from the baddies. With our bubbles in hand, we rescued the princess.

"It was a lovely, fun-filled morning that, hopefully, raised some money for Barnardo's."

Another Torquay nursery also supported the Barnardo's event.

Pea Pods Day Nursery in Abbey Road had 18 children aged from two to four take a stroll down to Torre Abbey Meadows then back to the nursery and they raised £100.

Kay Simpson, deputy manager at Pea Pods, said: "We reached the green just after 10 am and stayed until 2pm.

"The children had great fun 'rescuing' each other from all sorts of imaginary monsters, chasing each other around the big tree, having their faces painted and playing lots of games. We also had a picnic lunch."
