Tom Fox shines in South West counties week
TOM FOX from Saltash's China Fleet Club finished runner-up to Devon's David Ashley in the Clifford Burden Trophy at South West Counties Week in Dorset.
Saunton's Ashley claimed the Trophy as the most successful individual during the week-long Match Play Shield competition.
Ashley won nine of the 10 matches he played for Devon at Dudsbury.
Last season's Burden Trophy winner, Cornwall ace Fox highlighted his consistency by finishing runner-up with 8½ points.

Ashley was among the 10 players selected by South West captain Andy Rudge (Gloucestershire) for the annual match against the Midlands, which takes place at Burnham & Berrow on the north Somerset coast on Friday, October 18.
East Devon's David Blick, Cornwall's Joe Cruse (St Enodoc) and Somerset's Will Poole (Mendip Spring) are also in Rudge's South West select side.
The regional amateur golf spotlight will now shine on Woodbury Park next week as the mid-Devon course stages the women's South West Counties championship, starting on Monday.
Gloucestershire won the championship last summer, pipping hosts Cornwall 5-4 on the final day at Trevose.
Devon's top women's amateur players begin the week with a match against cross-Tamar rivals Cornwall – including St Mellion's Sammie Giles and Wendy Briggs – on Monday.
Last summer Cornwall pipped Devon 5-4 on the Thursday of the championship week at Trevose.
Devon's team includes teenage county champion Chloe Howard, from Boringdon Park, and Gilly Jarvis, of Yelverton.
The South West Counties Boys' Amateur Championship will be staged at Weston-super-Mare on July 10 and 11.
Devon's men – skippered by Tavistock's Adam Bridgewater – had a South Western Counties Golf Association championship week to remember.
Reigning Channel League champions Devon followed up qualifying for the English County finals – as South West representatives – by also claiming the Match Play Shield at South West Week with an unbeaten record.
Devon followed up a halved opener with 2012 and 2011 English county champions Wiltshire by beating hosts Dorset by five points and then following up with back to back victories over border rivals Somerset and Cornwall.
Devon saved their best until last, wrapping up their most successful south west championship since 2005 with a last day 12¼-1¾ victory over Gloucestershire.
Cornwall finished runners-up in the shield, losing just once – to all-conquering Devon.
