Topping out takes place on site of £27m hospital facility
A topping out ceremony has taken place on the site of a new £27 million mental health facility at a psychiatric hospital in Dawlish.
Interserve Construction is behind the redevelopment of the Langdon Hospital's former Butler Clinic. Commissioned by the Devon Partnership NHS Trust under a ProCure21 contract, the new Dewnans Centre is being built to provide medium security psychiatric care. Interserve has already undertaken two phases of enabling works to deal with strict environmental requirements set by the planning authority and to prepare the ground – including building the new access road – in preparation for construction works, which began in August 2011.

How the new facility will look
The facility, which is anticipated for completion in March will incorporate a new 60-bed medium secure unit and a range of supporting therapeutic facilities.
Innovations include the use of sustainable construction group Kingspan's KBS load bearing building system, which provides pre-fabricated, pre-insulated internal and external wall panels.

These are produced off-site for partial cladding on-site, using cement fibre boards internally and traditional brickwork to parts of the exterior.
Devereux Architects is behind the building blueprints.
The Devon Partnership NHS Trust's project director, Jim Masters said: "Every aspect of the development has gone according to plan and we have worked extremely closely with Interserve. It has been fantastic to see the new facility taking shape."
