Torquay United bid farewell to triallist defenders
TORQUAY United's midweek Development Game against the Nike Academy at Plainmoor proved to be an unsuccessful outing for trialist centre-back pairing Byron Anthony and Alex Evans.
There will, however, be another chance at the club for midfield duo George Artemi and Chris Luxton after their performances in the 1-1 draw.
United manager Martin Ling is looking for someone to challenge teenager Kirtys MacKenzie for the slot as third-choice centre-back and the standard has clearly risen after Kirtys’ impressive professional debut at Port Vale on the weekend.
“The two centre-backs we looked at are no more use to us than Kirtys, so they’ve been told that,” said Ling.

"I’m looking for someone to fill the gap between Kirtys and the top two.
“That gap is obviously not as big as it was before last week, which makes it difficult for people to come in.
“The little midfielder, Chris Luxton, plays at Bodmin and we’re just having a general look at him. He’s a good player from the area and he’ll probably play another game for us.
“George Artemi has been with us since the start of pre-season and a good person to have around, so we’ll have a look at him for another week.”
